Portland, Maine’s largest city is considered the cultural and economic center of Maine. It is nationally ranked #7 in a list of 100 Best Art Towns in America. Isn’t it time that this premiere city has a dealership of the world’s premium home sewing machine?
When looking for a space to locate a business, it is often said “location, location, location”, but we went searching for “parking, parking, parking,” and found it at 306 Warren Avenue at a multi-unit converted garage owned by “Sign Design”. The accommodations are not exactly first class, but the space is roomy, well-lit, and warm and allows for a separate room for Tyler to do repairs. We have painted and brought in rugs and hung quilts – what better décor could we find! Customers may park in the front parking area, or on the side of the building and enter through the side door. The space is very accessible and has no steps entering the building or inside it. The parking lot is also well lit. The space is almost directly across from O’Connor GM/Volvo (you can’t miss their Mack trucks parked across from our front driveway!). We will be putting up a new lighted sign out front, but for right now, look for our PFAFF sign in the front window.
The PFAFF brand is recognized worldwide for its precision German engineering and ease of use. Developed 145 years ago in Germany by the PFAFF family, the company has continued to thrive and produce sewing machines that are always a step ahead of the competition. Yes, there are great machines manufactured by other companies, but PFAFF continues to be a leader in the details that make sewing on a PFAFF a unique experience.
The IDT, exclusive to PFAFF until just recently (one company has tried to duplicate it), stitch balance functions, precise positioning for embroidery, free motion/darning positions on the machine presser lift, and wide 9mm stitches are just a few details that make PFAFF the premium machine. Sewing machines, embroidery machines, and sergers are set up and ready ‘test drive” at Sew Portland. PFAFF supplies are also available.
For more information on PFAFF products, stop by our store, give us a call or visit the PFAFF website.
Sew Portland stocks a collection of contemporary, designer quilting fabrics and a few garment fabrics such as Polartec™ from Malden Mills and Bali rayon batiks. In the limited space, these collections will rotate with fabric from the larger, corporate headquarters, Sewing by the Sea in Trenton, Maine.
We also have patterns for quilts and bags, as well as specialty thread, battings, sewing and quilting notions, books, and magazines.
At Sew Portland we offer classes for all levels of sewing enthusiasts. In addition, we offer free classes with your sewing machine purchase. Click here to see our current and upcoming classes and events and make sure you come back often to read our newsletter.
We repair all PFAFF machines, either on the premises, or at the Trenton store. Other brands of mechanical machines may be dropped off for cleanings or basic maintenance issues. Because we do not have the necessary parts available for all brands of machines, we defer the major brands of computerized machines to other dealers in town who specialize in those brands.
